  14.      I have two magazines in front of me. The one on top
  15. is the December 18, 1995 issue of the U.S. News and World
  16. Report. The other is the March/April 1994 issue of
  17. Biblical Archaeology Review.

  19.      This issue of U.S. News and World Report's cover
  20. article is entitled "God's City" and is about the city of
  21. Jerusalem. It says that "three great faiths consider
  22. Jerusalem sacred." The article contained alot of
  23. interesting information, but it was the following
  24. paragraph that particularly struck me:
  25.  
  26.      "The triangular 12-acre city David built lay some 350
  27. feet to the south of the walled Jerusalem of today...
  28. Archaeologists, who have uncovered 21 strata there ranging
  29. from the fourth millennium B.C. to the A.D. 15th century,
  30. estimate that the Davidic city's population never exceeded
  31. 4,000 - largely members of the court. Until recently, the
  32. biblical references to David and the city's structures
  33. were not collaborated archaeologically. But two years ago,
  34. a team digging in northern Israel uncovered a ninth
  35. century B.C. stone tablet bearing a clear reference to the
  36. "House of David" and "King of Israel," says former
  37. Jerusalem District Archaeologist Dan Bahat."

  39.      The other magazine; Biblical Archaeology Review, has
  40. a tremendous full color, full page photo of the stone
  41. tablet mentioned in the previous paragraph. The find
  42. contradicts many of the speculations of the "minimalist"
  43. modernistic scholars who do not even accept the Biblical
  44. record as being reliable, let alone the word of God. It
  45. shows that Israel and Judah were important kingdoms at the
  46. time. It shows that David and his family dynasty were
  47. historical and not some myth made up by post-exile Jews
  48. returning home. As has been the case so often before, the
  49. Bible has been shown to be accurate while the skepticisms
  50. of the liberal critics lie ruined under the weight of the
  51. evidence.

  53.      Finally, one more point. Suppose they had never found
  54. the stone tablet mentioning the "House of David"? Suppose
  55. the hole had been dug at a different location? Suppose it
  56. had been missed by two feet? I would still have as much
  57. faith in God and His word today even if I had never had
  58. the pleasure of seeing the photo of the stone tablet. My
  59. faith rests on many things inherent within the Scripture
  60. itself, such as fulfilled prophecy. "Faith comes by
  61. hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:17).

  63.      But still, I sure do enjoy it when I see the facts
  64. come up and give unbelieving skeptics a swift kick in the
  65. seat of the pants.
